EM Diatomite
EM Diatomite is the world’s highest quality diatomite available and it’s available here in Canada!
What is “Diatomite”?
To us, diatomite is a natural wall coating that can improve the health, safety, and beauty of your home or business. However, its composition and history go much deeper than that.
Diatomite is sediment (sedimentary rock) that forms from fossil frustule, which is a kind of algae. Frustule consists of silicon dioxide(SiO2)— a main ingredient of diatomite.
Diatomite is a fossilized phytoplankton (algae). For centuries, it has been used as a fireproofing material for Shichirin (earthen charcoal brazier), and as a fire-insulating brick. In ancient Greece, it was used as an abrasive, light brick, and as floating clay. In Istanbul, Turkey, the Hagia Sophia was built with diatomite around the six century. In Japan, it was used for interior wall materials of Kumamoto Castle in preparation for holding the castle. Also, it has been traditionally used as an undercoating of Wajima shikki (lacquered ware) since the Edo period.
After Dr. Nobel invented dynamite, and its industrial use became apparent, diatomite powder ultimately became an integral part of making the explosive portable. Nowadays, diatomite can be found as beer and alcohol filer as well as a superior wall coating.
Effects of Diatomite
Humidity control
Each particle of diatomite has innumerable pores (10-8cm) and each pore is water-absorbing. Therefore, it can control humidity levels in your house. It has high moisture absorbing/releasing properties and shows the effect semi-permanently by autonomous breathing.
Deodorization
In general, what causes odors? Cooking, smoking tobacco, pets, and body odors. There are many causes, and almost all of them adhere to water-soluble molecules. Diatomite absorbs moisture, along with the odors and then releases cleaner, more purified air.
.
Energy Conservation
Diatomite is good for insulation as it is not highly influenced by the outside temperatures.
With its aerial layers, it not only saves on heating costs and improves air-conditioned efficiency, but it also controls the humidity of the room, creating a more pleasant and comfortable living environment.
Self-Cleaning Action
Diatomite has a self-cleaning capability. It inhales the stain and automatically cleans the stain during the process of humidity control. If oil, soy sauce, or tea adheres to diatomite, for example, the stain disappears through this self-cleansing action. It is effective against water-soluble and oil-based stains.
.
Fireproofing
Diatomite is non-flammable because diatomite is composed of silica — an essential component of minerals, stones, and soils. Since it contains air, it simply does not conduct heat to other walls.
If diatomite were used as a water or powder coating, it would control the burning process, never emitting poisonous gases, which therefore reduces the possibility of casualties in the event of a fire.
Features of EM Diatomite
100% natural material
There are some reasons to mix it, although it can impair the efficiency of the diatomite. If one mixes our diatomite with glue or chemical resin, it clogs the innumerable pores and impairs the best features of diatomite wall coatings.
Our diatomite is:
- Convenient for application
- Formulated to prevent cracking
- Avoids efflorescence
- Controls color irregularities
- Suited for various foundations
- Available in a variety of colors
- Allows for different textures via application methods
.
EM Diatomite contains the highest level – 58% of siliceous shale
Every manufacturer adds solidification or binding materials to diatomite.
Cheap diatomite only has 5-10% and is unfortunately sold in the market at “diatomite”.
If you buy diatomite, please ask “How much diatomite does it contain?” The seller who has confidence in the percentage will reply clearly. At the least, more than 35% is required.
.
Uncalcination
EM Diatomite is a fully uncalcined product. Almost all manufacturers calcine diatomite rock. However, to calcine diatomite, you destroy the effectiveness of the pores and our products maximum efficiency.
Furthermore, the mineral cristobalite is created during the high-temperature process of calcination and it is suspected to be carcinogenic. This is because they want to remove impurities and stabilize the product.
Source & Production
We use the best diatomite from Japan called Wakkanai diatomite. Wakkanai siliceous shale has 100m2/g specific surface area, which is 4 times larger and its pore volume is 5 times larger than diatomite produced in other areas. Larger size quality works to ensure maximum absorption/desorption properties.
Solidification Materials
EM Diatomite is produced with special attention given to the use of natural materials to insure safety and perfect performance. By using specialized hydrated lime as a fixation agent, it maintains surface strength and mildew proofing. Also, calcined scallop shell works effectively in VOC absorptive decomposition and sterilizing effect.
Mineral Pigment
EM Diatomite is naturally colored by soil, stone, and coal, so the colors are retained semi-permanently. You can enjoy the color and texture indefinitely. Using chemicals for pigment cuts the cost, and while easier to create, it discolors easily and is negatively affected by ultraviolet rays.
Natural minerals may eventually fade, but as with mother nature, the deterioration is much slower than chemical composition because it is made from minerals, rocks, and soil that are meant to last for eternity.
